Like many artists, my best work comes from the deepest place inside of me which fulfills the basic need to create. If the deepest place inside of us is the heart, then reciprocally our art speaks to the heart of the beholder. Technique, value and design are all important but without the ability to create with an open heart – one of our most potent and abundant powers – an artist is not likely to emotionally and spiritually connect to the witness.
This is a core belief that I developed through spiritual practices that I engage in regularly to further my journey and maturity of spiritual growth. Meditation, yoga, grounding in nature, and the appreciation of all art forms not only contribute to my spiritual wealth and development but also to my creativity.
THE CHALLENGE
This past spring, I engaged in a few spiritual challenges, but the Deepak Chopra 21 Days of Abundance Meditation Challenge was one in particular that furthered my spiritual development and opened my inner guidance and heart on a whole new and deeper level.
The 21 challenge published by the Chopra Center is designed to help you develop a mindset of prosperity and abundance in your daily life by venturing into a deeper appreciation for yourself, your heart, and honoring your soul’s greatest desires. You learn to become more capable of giving fully to yourself and others through the power of meditation.
During this challenge, I had emerging ideas concerning my art and it helped me realize that not only would my art help me as an artist live my ideals but that it could also be of service in the world by weaving together certain ideals and convictions that could guide and help navigate the lives of others. There are many ways to do this. Some artists, including me, write words, affirmations and even prayers on the canvas and paint over the words. Many others put great intention into their work. While others use colors that vibrate at different frequencies, to bring the viewer to desired states.
But this was how the idea of the mantra cards came to into being. My original art was woven together with the phrase & mantra combinations for each day of the challenge. Some of the art was inspired by and created after my daily meditations, whiles other cards were created using previously created artwork that I felt were fitting for the challenge. The original intent was to give the cards to the members of the group that I ran, but I have found that these cards have been of service to many others by providing a centering thought for the day or as a reminder that you are enough. ©JackieBegueArt.
